Geforce 6150 nforce 430 and nVidia-drivers 196.*

Hello all,
I used the videocard Geforce 6150 nforce 430 (NV4C) without problems untill the upgrade to kernel > 2.6.32 and nvidia-drivers > 190.*. After the upgrade I can use only nv and vesa in the Gentoo x86_64 and in the Fedora 13 x86_64. When I try to install Geforce 8800 GT everything becomes good with free nvidia-drivers and with proprietary ones in both distributions.

My question is
Does anybody use this videocard with the kernel 2.6.33(34)* and nvidia-drivers 196.* ?

Thank you in advance.

well the driver has been patched and upgraded to go with the new kernel
this is the driver for the kernel.so it will compile . 190 to 196 to the latest 256 for the 6 series and up http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree8..._64-256.35.run
do not forget to edit the /etc/modbrobe.d/blacklist.conf
blacklist nouveau

yes every one has been doing this 196 was patched but the 256 is the latest fixes. Any one that has been running current distro's has been addressing this since November 2009 when the nouveau open source 2D driver went in to the kernel. Does not support 3d. And only very experienced linux users are compiling and testing the gallium-drm nouveau 3d driver.

if nouveau driver is loaded you will be unable to build the nvidia driver this is so you do not brake the xorg.
you will get a out put like no /usr/src/linux

Hello Drakeo,
Thank you for your answer.

At first, sorry for my poor English I am from Russia.
Did the patch prepared especially for geforce 6150? I mentioned that I tried Geforce 8800 and was succeeded in Gentoo (compiled without nouveau support) and in Fedora 13 with 256 drivers downloaded from nvidia site and blacklisted nouveau. Today I have bought Geforce 220 and have a success in Gentoo with nvidia-drivers 196.36.21 .
Maybe tomorrow I will try Fedora 13 and I hope that it will be success with 256 drivers.

I tried Geforce 220 with Fedora 13 - no problems. Nvidia-drivers works.

I guess that I couldn't mistake with the old card and be right with Geforce 8800 and Geforce 220.

P.S. I don't use 3d. Only 2d.
