FC4 DHCP not receiving IP

Hi everyone thank you for any help you can provide.

Problem: I have a PC that I have setup to dual boot XP and FC4. I am living in S. Korea and when I run XP the PC has no problems receiving the IP address from the DHCP server. In FC4, when I try to bring up the network I get a message "Determining IP information for Eth1... failed." I get this message on either network cards that are installed in this machine, both of which work on XP. I've tried disabling the firewall, but I still get the same message.

Configuration:

PC: Dell Dimension 4600
Network Cards: Intel(R) Pro/100 VE Network Connection
realtek RTL 8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet Nic

Install: FC4 Default (I've tried installing everything and selective installs)

Once again thanks for any help.

Try a static IP first (same as XP uses).

If that doesn't help, you may need to check the duplex settings, etc.

Which DHCP package are you using?

FC4 by default has a security setting called SELinux which is on by default unless you've turned it off. I would suggest diabling this settings since it's know to cause issues with things not working as expected, goto to the main menu --> System Settings --> Security level, and disable the setting and restart the machine and see if that fixes the problem.

Unhappy Same problem...Different Noobie

I'm having the same problem as bvknapp. I am trying to use DHCP, but it's not working in Linux (fedora core 3). It works in windows XP.

I tried the SELinux fix, no avail. It simply hangs for a while (a few minutes) on "initializing eth0:" Then it said [Failed].

I decided to try to use the static ip info that Windows had gotten from the DHCP. That didnt work either. The device came up, but still could not connect to anything.

Fine. I didnt want to use a static ip anyway......

Now, when i boot up (i switched back to DHCP), it says:

Initializing eth0: Determining IP information for eth0:... /sbin/dhclient-script: configuration for eth0 not found. Continuing with defaults
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/network-functions: line47: eth0 no such file or directory

then, after another minute or so of waiting, it finally says [failed], and finishes booting.

Yes i'm a linux noob, but i would really like to figure this out.

on another note, i cant reboot. it hangs on a blank screen. when i shut down, i hear everything exept for the cpu fan kick off, and the screen says
acpi_power_off called.

i suppose that is supposed to tell my motherboard to shut down?

I'm running a Soyo Dragon kt600 plus, 2.4ghz
30Gig hd (15 gig windows partition, 14 gig linux, 520 mb swap space)
Rhine FAST ethernet adapter 10/100
Windows Xp Professional

thanks for any help.

I've considered trying to recompile the kernel and utilizing ndiswrapper.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
