How are you connecting this external hard drive?

Magic?

USB?

Firewire?

Yes. Same with FC2 and FC3. And firewire for that matter. If you stop
the Fedora installation the devices /sev/sd* is there so the external HDs
is there, but the installation program doesn't see them sor some reason.
I installed Gentoo instead, but didn't like the download/compile stuff, so
now I installed FC3 on another machine, tar'ed the entire root and
unpacked it on the external disk. It works fine.
