Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Error with USB device

Hi,
I am trying to attach and old USB webcam to a CentOS (kernel 2.6) machine.
When I plug cable, I see this in /var/log/messages:

Code:
usb 2-1.5: new low speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4
usb 2-1.5: device descriptor read/64, error -32
It is strange, because I have no error with other devices (USB drives..) on same USB port.

Any ideas?
Thank you!

This may well be due to a fault with the webcam device. Are you able to test its behaviour with a different computer?

FWIW, this may be of interest to you

"What is the total output of 'dmesg | tail' after you plug in the device?" Not a bad start.

Wild guesses to follow.

My guess is that the usb is not picking up this correctly for one of two reasons. One is modprobe to find out if it can support this camera or two is usbcore configuration.
