Enabling Direct Rendering...

I have followed what the guy said to do in this thread, but I still can't get my ATI card to work.

I have an ATI Radeon Mobility M6 LY, on my Compaq laptop. I have installed the common and radeon DRI drivers, editted my xorg.conf accordingly, and I even recompiled a new kernel to make sure DRM and AGP were built in. However I still get direct rendering = no from glxinfo, and apparently it is still using the Mesa drivers. I'm lost and have no idea what to do. Can someone help me for the love of god?

Not exactly sure but I think that if you install the drivers drom another source (as I think youve done) you actually have to disable the one that comes with kernel. ATI drivers are famous for being problematic for Linux users. Good luck.

When I am recompiling my kernel should I enable DRM as built in or module? And should I enable my chipset?
