dvd listed as /dev/cdrom1

I have a pioneer dvd-120s and I decided that I'd try to see if I could play a dvd on linux. I used yum to get xine and ogle, but when ever I try to open a dvd with xine (as root and as user, yes there is media in the drive), it says "The source can't be read. maybe you dont have enough rights for this, or source doesnt contain data (/dev/dvd)". Ogle also gives an error:

libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.8 for DVD access
libdvdread: Could not open /dev/dvd with libdvdcss.
libdvdread: Can't open /dev/dvd for reading
ERROR[ogle_nav]: faild to open/read the DVD

I checked fstab and my dvd player is listed in fstab as /dev/cdrom1. Is there a way to get around this (environment variable or something?)

thx

One way would be to make a symbolic link to the /dev/cdrom1 and put it as /dev/dvd. Just become root and type this in if you're not sure how to do that.

ln -s /dev/cdrom1 /dev/dvd
