I've just installed successfuly Slackware 11 on my new PC, which has integrated video. The chipset is i945. I have precompiled 2.6.19 kernel with CONFIG_FB_INTEL=y (it was written in the menuconfig help, that this is what I need to get graphics with i945).
So for now X works fine with vesa driver. If I try to run it with i810 driver, I get 800x600 and no higher resolution. It seems there isn't an exactly i945 driver. Is there something better than 'vesa'?
Untill now I was with GeForce2 MX200 on my old PC, and everything there was fine.
glxgears gives me about 600-700 fps.
Another issue is that in mplayer (installed from binary tgz) I can't adjust brightness and contrast (hot buttons 1-4 on kbd). I tried with different video drivers (-vo help) and I managed to change these values only on gl and gl2 drivers, but the video speed there was awfully slow.
Here is the output from xvinfo:
Code:
X-Video Extension version 2.2
screen #0
no adaptors present
This is my first try with integrated video. I will gladly accept any tips and tricks
