You need to use cups. Make sure it is installed (it probably is) and that cupsd is running. Plug in & turn on your printer.
Now cups has a browser-based frontend: So go to
http://localhost:631
Click "Do Admin Tasks"
Login to cups as "root" with "root's password" (No quotes!)
Go to Add Printer & Follow the prompts.
If your printer is not listed, (and it is not with my (old) version of cups) then you should search http://www.linuxprinting.org/
I had a quick look there, and it looks as though your printer will work with the driver eps9high which looks like a driver for an epson dot-matrix printer.
Hope this helps, good luck!

Whilst people like to be helpful, please note that LQ has a most excellent SEARCH facility: There's a button at the top of this page. Google is your friend too:

Google "linux bash commands" give this good link to linux (bash) commands:
http://www.ss64.com/bash/
But if you want to see if cups is running you could do
ps -AL | grep cups
Similarly, googling for "cups ppd file" is likely to be helpful in determining what you should do with the file once you have managed to get the cups daemon running.
I'm using mandrake and KDE, so for me it is under System->Configure your computer-> System Services -> Cups -> Start now and start at boot.
With slack, there'll be something similar.
Hope this helps.
