Do i have to find a driver?

Trying to get my Canon LIDE 20 scanner to work on my laptop - i run USB view and it recognizes there is a scanner there and gives me some info on it.
But devfs does not seem to pick up an create nodes for it. somebody told me a needed some other daemon running for USB - but i am not knowing where to look to find this. Its a gentoo Installation on a Dell C600 laptop.
Don't know what info you need, so ask me, i'll be monitoring this thread

Thanks

G

I really hate scanners. One of the harder things to get working. My only advice would be to search for it and check out the SANE web pages and so forth. There may be a SANE backend for it, though you may need firmware drivers and so forth...

Good luck!

I suggest try VMware, so you can use the scanner in Linux. The support for scanners is very, very rare.

The scanner is supported by sane - but i really haven't got that far as to setting backends in sane or anything of that nature - the scanner shows up in /proc/bus/usb/devices -- but sane doest not recognize that the scanner is even there - i'm used to dealing with devices that appear in /dev/something -- and think i should have a node there representing the scanner - but deffs has not created one - not really sure why not, or even where to look to find out why not - hell not even sure if i am lookin in the right place, or if scanners should appear as a dev node

please toss out some suggestions of where / what i should be lookin at - i know this scanner can be run natively; i just don't know where i should be lookin now
