Distro that runs on Freescale CPU ? Watchguard M200 Firewalls

I just replaced the Firewalls here at work, and have 2 appliances that are at most 4 years old.

The previously replaced firewall, a Watchguard XTM 535 was an Intel processor, and PF Sense can be loaded on those. relatively easy to repurpose, the newest ones are ARM Processors so those will be useful in the future as well. the two I just retired this week however..

Watchguard Firebox M200
  • CPU - Freescale T1042 64-bit quad-core e5500 Power Architecture® processor
  • Storage Micro SD 8 GB
  • Memory: RAM 2GB DDR3L 1600MT/s, 64-bits width, non-ECC, U-DIMM type
  • Power supply 100W, 100~240 VAC, 3-1.5A, 50-60 Hz 100W, 100~240 VAC, 3-1.5A, 50-60 Hz
  • Network interfaces 8x 1000 Base-TX (10/ 100/1000Mbps), RJ45 connector
  • I/O interfaces 2 USB 2.0
  • 1 RJ45 Serial Port

Any thoughts on a distro that still supports Power architecture Processors that could be loaded on these to make them useful ? Repurposing them as firewalls seems to make the most sense do to their HW layout and multiple ethernet interfaces.

Just hate to toss them in the trash when they are barely 4 years old.

Distrowatch shows that Debian, OpenSUSE, and Ubuntu are possible, supporting both big-endian and little-endian PPC processors — I'm not sure what the T1042 is, but I'm sure you will be.

"Firewarev12.6.x is based on Linux kernel 4.14." https://www.watchguard.com/support/r...es_v12_5_5.pdf

That may mean you have a chance.

Revisit M200

I know this is an old thread, but has anybody come up with something we can run on these?
