disk space lost

I've 120GB of disk space. I've allocated 40GB each to my three partitions. Few days ago I've deleted some of the programs from the C drive (40GB). After that time my C drive shows only 33GB of space.

I've installed gparted but it also shows 33GB of space in C drive. Hows that possible?
What can I do to get back my 7GB of lost space? Help me.

what do you mean by drive c? sda1?

try to format it, it must be somewhere, but if gparted shows nothing i can just gwess that one plate stopped working. It would be strange.

7GB missing, on the root drive ? Operating system, your files you kept, programs, logs, web cache. Hardly the end of the world is it ? How did you delete those files ? Did you use rm or use the GUI ? If it was the latter, then they are still in the Trash.

How much space were you expecting ?

What operating system? What file system?

Is this a GB vs GiB issue?
