Debian Sarge: In which .conf file KDE Control stores the Sound configuration?

Hello every body

I have a Dell PC with a Creative Labs SB Live! soundcard, and Debian Sarge 3.1r2

so, i tried to configure MIDI and went to KDE Control.. and under the Sound & Multimedia, MIDI Section i typed /dev/midi, attempting to configure it because i was unable to play any MIDI file.

then i tried to play some MIDI files but it didnt work, so i went back again to change it, but since i typed that "/dev/midi" in there, i cant access that section anymore, because it hangs and I must close it by clicking repeated times the close (X) button because it stops responding.

How can i remove that setting? there is some .conf file to change? or another? please help me

thanks in advance!!

the module for my sound card is emu10k i think, and i'm using OSS, not ALSA
Peter

Solved!

I was looking at my home directory, there is a hidden subdirectory called .kde that contains share/config/

inside there is a file named kcmmidirc, i edited it beacuse it was set as:

[Configuration]
mapFilename=/dev/midi
midiDevice=0
useMidiMapper=true

i just removed the "/dev/midi"

and kcontrol no longer hangs when entering to that section

please close topic.. lol thank you very much ! you all moved me to figure out myself

Thank you for taking the time to report your results.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner, there were a couple of thoughts I had that might have made things easier.

As you found out, ~/.kde/share/config/ contains all manner of files that contain answers to questions like yours. In addition to this directory location:

~/.kde/share/config/

I want to point out 2 techniques for finding which file to look inside of:
  1. Sort them by date, most recent 1st. If necessary make a change to bring your "target" to the top.
  2. grep the whole dir. for a likely phrase. In your case:
    Code:
    grep '/dev/midi' ~/.kde/share/config/*

Hope this helps someone else.
