Creative Soundblaster Live! and no sound

I run Suse 9.1 personal and have problems with getting the soundcard to work. It's a creative soundblaster live 7.1 (model SB0410) Apparently it isn't really well supported. Then I thought I could try the ca0106-driver mentioned (in the thread I was going to post about, but wasn't allowed), but since I'm a newbie to linux I didn't get very far with that either. So what I need now, is some help to get this thing working. And please say it as simple as possible so I might understand what to do.

uname -r gives 2.6.4-52-default

result of /sbin/lspci

The Sound Blaster Live card has full support in your distro, AFAICT. I would uninstall all other drivers first. Then go here: http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php?page=AlsaCVS which is what is mentioned to do here: http://www.alsa-project.org/~james/a...ld/install.txt

Then follow the instructions. The instructions are fairly detailed, but confusing for me, as I'm a newbe too. I would guess that if you follow them it will become clear. That your lspci says it is an unknown device sounds strange, however. Is it plugged in correctly? Hopefully someone else will come along with more help.

ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/Linux/distrib...9.1/suse/i586/ is the server closest to you if you get dependancy errors or need GCC or make.

I tried to do as told in that link, but when I was going to get the cvs file, the link didn't work.

How do I uninstall the other drivers?
I think it is plugged in correctly, since it works in windows. ( I have dualboot)

I tried the link and found it to be dead too. You might try the SUSE Linux forums here: http://forums.suselinuxsupport.de/index.php?act=idx and ask them there. I know you can use this card in Linux, you just need the module to work! Hopefully someone else will come along and chime in too.

It probably would be, so tell me how to do it properly then.

So true, but newbies are mostly stuck in RPM land. A little explanation or a link would be very helpful.

FYI: I talked AKH into trying SUSE in another forum, and now there is this blasted sound card trouble. I'm at a loss to help past what I said above, so any help would be appreciated.
