CPU sharing over LAN.

Can I "share" CPU power with another computer over lan. I have a few old computers, Pentium 4 computers, just sitting there gathering dust. Distcc works great, but it's only for compiling. Is there a daemon that can harvest all the CPU of another computer, much like distcc, but for everyday things?

What are you trying to achieve? You could try creating a cluster with Beowulf, MPICH2 or PVM...

I do lots of compiling and processing, It's nice to have lots of processing power on your hands. This is what I'm trying to achieve.

Unfortunately, there isn't an easy way to get this to magically happen. The current technology requires that you create a system that distributes the execution of your programs across the the CPUs in question. I also would recommend a beowulf with MPI.

For compiling, take a look at distcc:

As my OP said, I know about distcc, works fine for compiling, but not for other things.
