CPU architecture

I am unsure of my cpu architecture. I am trying to install Fedora 10 and the categories of Intel based CPU's are not specific enough to tell me which iso image to download.

http://docs.fedoraproject.org/instal...hich-arch.html

Here are my specs from /proc/cpuinfo:
Code:
processor : 0
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu family : 15
model : 4
model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz
stepping : 1
cpu MHz : 2992.560
cache size : 1024 KB
physical id : 0
siblings : 2
core id : 0
cpu cores : 1
apicid : 0
initial apicid : 0
fdiv_bug : no
hlt_bug : no
f00f_bug : no
coma_bug : no
fpu : yes
fpu_exception : yes
cpuid level : 5
wp : yes
flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic mtrr pge mca cmov pat cpuinfo
I am guessing i386. Is that right?

I assume you clipped off some of the flags when you copied that info into your post. (For example, those flags look like you don't have hyperthreading, but the siblings/cores numbers indicate you do have hyperthreading).

i386 would certainly work and ppc certainly won't work. But I forget where to look up "cpu family 15 model 4" to determine whether x86_64 would also work (I think not, but I'm not sure).

The full set of flags should also tell that.

You also didn't say how much ram you have. For lower amounts of ram, even if x86_64 would work, i386 might be better.

That is a safe bet. However, there were some Pentium 4 processors that were 64 bit.

I guess it depends on "stepping" as well as family and model.

I did a google search and found that cpu family 15, model 4, stepping 3 supports both i386 and x86-64, but cpu family 15, model 4, stepping 1 (as you have) supports i386 but not x86-64.

The "lm" flag is not present either, so no x86_64, you need i386, assuming that fedora doesn't ship other x86 images like i686 or whatever.

Does anyone know a good tutorial that describes the different entries in the cpuinfo file?
