Computer boots, but no mouse or keyboard

Running Linuxmint, Isadora. The computer is connected to a KVM switch. It boots fine but once boot is complete, neither the mouse or keyboard work. Hitting scroll-lock twice to go to the other computer on the KVM does work. I have disconnected the Linuxmint computer from the KVM and connected the mouse and keyboard directly. And when it boots this way, same problem.

any ideas?

I did LiveCD boot this Linuxmint machine and I mounted its root partition and found that the mouse and keyboard were recognized. (or at least they showed up in /mnt/var/log)

Would dmesg work? Or would it just give me the results of the LiveCD boot?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Boot to live cd or install without kvm first.

Are you using a USB or PS/2 keyboard and mouse?
Once the live CD was up and running did the keyboard and mouse work properly?

If using USB devices then make sure the BIOS is configured for USB legacy devices.

Dis-connect mouse/keyboard from KVM, connected to computer, re-booted. No difference, still no mouse or keyboard. Computer will boot, brings up the desktop, looks just like it always did. Except that now there is no input device at all.

ps/2. I'm not sure right now(I've done so many things to this computer that I'm losing track) but I think the mouse and keyboard did work when booted to Live CD.

I just re-booted with a Helena Live CD. The mouse and keyboard are working. I got an Isadora Live CD in the mail today and the computer will not boot from it.

I booted into a command line and keyboard worked fine. Lost it all as soon as I entered command 'startx'.
