Changing port setup

On my dell 700m there is 2 audio port, an audio out, and a mic in. Well i know for a fact that i will NEVER use the mic in an ive had times that i need a spliter. I was just wondering if anyone knows if its possible to change the mic port to be an audio source.

The answer would be an almost definately not. "Almost" comes from the fact that as sound chips get cheaper tthey throw more control into software, and I've seen one driver that let's you use the line-in to be a tertiary line-out, cmpci chipset, but I'm pretty certain that you've got an i810_audio based card and I've never seen anything that sophisticated on one of those. And it would definately have to be at the driver level so that would involve a lot of C hacking anyway. Might want to try the alsa site to see if they've got that sort of wigginess compilable into specifically the driver for the card you've got, but I really doubt it's doable.

Cheers,
