CDRom won't mount

My cdrom won't read some data discs that a coworker gave me, I've had it happen on some other CDs but I thought it was just a fluke. anyway - error message:
Code:
DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

Ubuntu 8.10 32bit

I tried asking over at the ubuntuforums but nobody ever answers me there anymore... so any help would be great
Thanks
Mike

Do you know if the data CD's were closed properly? Were they multisession CDs? What program did he use to create them?

I've occasionally run into problems when it was a multisession CD that wasn't closed properly by Roxio.
