cdburner reads not writes

having prob's getting my burner to work.

basically it loads read only, and trying to switch
through "mount /dev/hdc" and fstab only returns:
"block device is read-only"
"cdrecord - scanbus " claims it can't find anything
even though the scsi driver is actually loaded.
(through lsmod)
any idea what's going wrong?

Thanks in advance, NgraphiX.

RO in fstab doesn't mean anything at all for a CDRW. You need to make sure that scsi emulation is enabled. Check /etc/lilo.conf
It should have a line like this -
append="quiet devfs=mount hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi"
that's mine, showing that scsi emulation is enabled for sec master - hdc and sec slave - hdd. If you don't have this in yours, edit it, and then as root in a terminal type lilo to activate the changes. Reboot, root console cdrecord -scanbus should then give your CDRW.
