CD ROM problems

I'm running Ubuntu 7.04 and for some reason I'm running in to issues with the CD ROM, I can't eject it from Ubuntu and when I put a CD into it, it freezes on me, and I believe the same thing happens with the Live CD version of Ubuntu 7.04.

Can someone help me?

Does it open if you type: eject /dev/hdc in a console window?

if it is mounted it will not open, which it probably is.
