cant get gui to work in RH9, but worked fine in mandrake 10

i'm running a nvidia geforce fx 5200 and just a generic crt monitor but since gnome and kde worked in mandrake 10 i havent figured out why rh9 is crashing when i startx. i installed the driver during the x configuration i believe it's listed as geforce fx {generic}and the monitor i believe i left the generic for that too. If anyone can point out some possible reasons why it worked in mandrake and not in red hat plz let me know because i dont think it was setup wrong during nstallation and as far as i can tell they re both using the same fx(generic) driver.

thanks
