Hello, I am a Linux Newbie running SuSE 9.2 Professional (Which I really like. ^_^).
However, I seem to be unable to connect my new digital camera, a Canon Powershot a510. Does anyone know where I can get some linux drivers for this camera?

I may be wrong, but it should just be recognized like a hard drive. Have a look thru the manual and see if it can be setup to act like a USB mass storage device. If it can and you do not have any other usb or scsi hard drive on your system, plug it in and it will probably under /dev/sda. Then just mount it like a normal drive.

Mabye I should just get a reader...
That's a good Idea. I had a nikon digital that insisted on using it's own software to upload images. It did have a Flash-Drive card and I just got a usb FlachCard reader. works great. Plus I can use the FlashCard for files and junk....
I've just got a new Canon A510. I'm on Ubuntu x86_64 with a custom-compiled kernel (although I doubt that makes any difference).
I installed gphoto2 and gtkam. From within the gtkam application, I went to the Camera menu-> Add Camera and chose the Detect button. It detected my camera as a USB PTP Class Camera. I can save and browse my pictures with no problem.
Actually, I found out why the cam was not working right under linux.
The camera was not working right. After messing with it a bit on another (windows XP only) computer, I discovered that the camera was defective, returned it, and got an HP camera on sale for $20 less, 1 megapixel better resolution, and a 256 meg card.
Its working fine for me.
But, thanks to all of you who posted suggestions on the forum.
