Cannot mount cdrom

I'm running an Ubuntu server and I cannot seem to mount the cdrom drive (actually, dvd). I just replaced the network card and I have to get the driver on the system to install it. I tried everything that applied to my box here and here and I still cannot access the drive. Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you.

I never had problems accessing my harddrive or cdrom before...

Check dmesg, make sure it's detected (it should).

Now, put it a CD, and try to remember if it's supposed to be hdc, hdd, or sdc (on some occasions)...

then mount it:
mount /dev/cdrom (or hdc or sdc, or whatever... depending on your system) /mnt/cdrom.

I don't know if it's a good pratice, but when I get on a new system, I put in a cdrom, and enter the following commands:

cat /dev/hdc
cat /dev/hdd
cat /dev/sdc
...

until I get the output of the CD ... It's a stupid and lazy way of doing it, but I like it.

I would be very useful to know what is the exact error message, or the exact problem you have while trying to access the dvd. Does it mount? Is there any error messages? Was it working before?

There is several thousand things that can cause mount to fail, we really need some hints.
