I am having exactly the same problem. I do not even know how to edit config files ... I am also trying Suse 10 ... after having tried Ubuntu 5.10 and unable to print. I looked at vim ... it is supposed to be improved editor ... no wonder Bill Gates is rich. I have used MS Dos editors and they were much better. One can even use notepad in windows for these things. Anyway CUPS administration is disabled through the browser interface in both Ubuntu 5.10 and Suse 10. No explanation is given and no hints given. Windows has always had a troubleshooting program ... it was not perfect but at least someone had thought of it ... and they have also thought of context sensitive help ... these are lacking in Linux compilations. To a newbie like me linux feels like windows 3.1 ... when I am searching the forums to find a solution to my linux problems. At least you found an answer ... I will try this one ... My problem is I am trying to print through D-Link router which has a printer port ... works great with windows ... came with instructions for windows but they don't post anything aout linux. The corresponding comfiguration for windows is
Port=D Link LPT Port
Printer's' IP address 192.168.0.1
Ubuntu 5.10 net scan detects the port as 515 printer port but entering that information in printer configuration does not print anything. Suse 10 does not even detect it as printer port.
I tried evry possible combination and it will not work.
... though as you pointed out may be the system has to reboot before it would print. And I thought rebboting was a problem with windows only.
Thanks for the answers here ... I will try it.
