Cannot get X server running (mandrake 10)

Mandrake 10.0 on a Dell D800 notebook. I cannot get x server running. I tried re-installing and configuring X this time. Still no dice. This laptop has an Nvidia fx 5200 installed.

I tried every monitor for laptop under "DELL". Even chose a custom one, did not work. Can anyone give some advice? I have never had this much trouble installing linux on my other laptops

well don't give up yet. Can you just carry on with your installation until it finishes? Or X must be set up right in the installation process? Not sure how MDK works, sorry.

If all fails, maybe you can give Slackware 10 a try. nice distro. It will go into CLI by default. You will have lot's of chance to fiddle with xorg after your installation.
