Can't boot from same the device that Ubuntu is installed on

I recently did fresh installation of Ubuntu 11.10 on my new SSD. Previously I had another 11.10 on my HDD and I left it untouched during the installation I think. Once I have booted everything runs smooth but there is a problem while booting. In this computers BIOS you can only have one HDD or SDD as a boot device in the boot device order list at once. I would like it to be my SSD but I have it that way it won't boot. A white underscore flashes as it tries to boot from that device. However if I set the HDD to be my primary boot device it will load GRUB and give me the option, among several others from my old HDD, to boot my latest installation on my SSD.

How do I fix this so that I can boot directly from the SSD? Did the installer skip the install GRUB on my SSD because it noticed the HDD?

"Solved" it by reinstalling Ubuntu when the HDD was unplugged. Just unplugging the HDD didn't help
