Use the k3b setup wizard to make sure that cdrecord is setuid and running as root permissions. Also, have you tried different types of media?

If you have 2 drives ...

Try using Knoppix in your CD-ROM to burn the CD (given, as said, you have 2 drives and enough Ram). Don't do anything on the machine while Knoppix is burning! Maybe try other media also. Some burners are tricky.

You should also try K3b Setup, might help (but if I remember correctly, K3b should complain about permission problems).

Finally, what is the error message? I don't get where the problem lies? Does it do try to burn something? How many different CD's have you tried (as said, might be problem with drive not likeing your CD media brand). Have you updated firmware lately, or changed drive? It seems CD has be written at 4x speed, what media did you use?

thanks for replying, i have tried the k3b set up , but it is correct as far as im concerned , it is recognizing the CD BURNER, about the cd's i have given that a thought , but it's not like they are cheap cd's they are optimum 52x. i have use 'em before.

here is the message i get

Starting writing TAO 4x
Enabled BurnFree
Starting Writing
Unable to fixate disk
a write error ocurred

Ever treid writing slower? Like 24x? Shouldn't be much slower anyway, since 52x isn't the speed used throughout the whole cd, but just a maximum speed.

How much data are you trying to put on the CD? I've read somewhere this might be the problem.

Try Nero

The demo version should work 30 days. If it fails again, there is probably something wrong with the burner/media.
http://www.nero.com/en/nerolinux-prog.html

If it succeeds on the other side, try updating K3b and cdrecord to the latest versions. Also, I'm not sure if the burners are still supposed to be emulated as SCSI. Your burner seems to be handled that way.

File size

Hi again

I just locked at the log file again and found some things quite strange. How much data are you trying to put on that CD? Is it an empty CD? Also try other media, you could try to borrow a CD-RW or maybe exchange some of your CD against others of other brand.

Please try Nero, if it works it will show us that the hardware works OK. Yes, I know, it worked before, but how can you be sure that it still works NOW!

Concerning the SCSI thing: this seems normal and you are running the same cdrecord as me. So the problem probably is not here.

I'll try Nero , the cd i'm trying to burn is like 600 mb , but i don't think that matters because i have tried with single files and stuff like that but the result it's the same,
