Can't recognize/find my onboard sound card. Need help setting up ALSA.

Ok, I am running a fairly recent version of Gentoo linux on a Compaq Presario 5270 equipped with an onboard sound card. I want to get ALSA set up and running but I don't know how to find which onboard sound card I have (I obviously can't grep pci) or how to set it up to work with ALSA. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I will add that I'm running 2.4.20-gentoo-r6. How do I grep my motherboard? Or is that an entirely wrong approach?
