Can't add epson printer
Well, Ubuntu doesn't come w/ my printers drivers by default. I own an espon stylus c84. So I get the latest cups server (I got 1.2), then downloaded gimp-print, which has the driver.
I compile them both, install, etc. I restart the cups server, works fine. I see the new drivers listed, yay.
So I select the driver in the make-new-printer-wizard in gnome, but no printer ever comes up. This is what I get when I run it from a terminal.
# gnome-cups-manager
(gnome-cups-manager:27180): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.
(gnome-cups-add:27184): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.
Selected ppd file = gimp-print/5.0/C/stp-escp2-c84.5.0.ppd.gz
I believe it has to do w/ user rights. Ubuntu, as you may know, doesn't have a root user. I should have been presented w/ a sudo pw box, but never was prompted for the password when configureing printers. So that's my suspision. Can anyone help?
