Broken USB Disk

Hi.
I have an 2gb USB Disk that won't work anymore. No partition application, gparted, fdisk or cfdisk can read from it and DD can't write to it. They all give an I/O error. I get this message from dmesg when attaching the drive to my computer.

Quote:
[ 2700.923265] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE
[ 2700.923283] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] Sense Key : Illegal Request [current]
[ 2700.923301] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] Add. Sense: Logical block address out of range
[ 2700.923321] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] CDB: Read(10): 28 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 08 00
[ 2700.923357] end_request: I/O error, dev sdb, sector 0
Is there any application that can fix completely broken disks? I have always believed that DD could save anything, but not this time.

I'm sorry to say that there is nothing you can do to fix a broken USB stick. If it's dead, that's it, it's over. There is no recovery, there is no fix. That's why you don't store important data on it.

Well I'm not talking about recover the data on it but being able to create a new filesystem on it. But if it's broken beyond repairs, well then it's good that it's a cheap small 2gb disk.
