Brightness problems on an Intel 845

Im having problems with my brightness settings. I tried the xgamma command but that didnt work. I tried downloading and installing drivers but that hasnt made a difference and I'm running out of ideas.

Im running Redhat 9 with 2.4 kernel (i think)
Pentium 4 2.4 GHz
Intel 845 graphics controller
512 mb DDR ram

Forgive me but I'm a Linux noob but can anyone help me out?

I'm not sure what you tried, exactly, or why it isn't working. Too little info. I use Monica to calibrate my monitor. You can then use the values you find with Monica for the Gamma option in the Monitor section of your X configuration file. Hope that helps.

try turning off the light sensor, I dont know how. I covered the lightsensor. everything is now brite.
