Boot from external HDD

Hi, I would like to know if I can make a bootable linux partition on an external drive (like the Iomega USB one).
Which kernel should I boot in that case?
Thanks!

Your ability to boot from a USB device depends on your BIOS. Go into the boot section, and look to see if USB is offered as an option -- if so, move it to the top of the boot sequence, that way, anytime the USB drive it connected the system will try to boot from it first. If it's not present, then unfortunately, there is no real practical way to boot from it.
