I am trying to upgrade my old video card, (Nvidia 7300GT) to a new one, a Nvidia 9600GSO.
I removed the old drivers, replaced the card, booted, logged in as root and installed the new drivers, building the kernel module with the kernel sources, allowing the nvidia-xconfig to make my xorg.conf. After this didn't work, I just used my existing xorg.conf that worked with the older card.
I reboot, startx, and the computer beeps twice, the monitor loses signal (turns itself off), and hangs the computer. Nothing gets written to Xorg.0.log. It does not accept input, and I flip the power switch.
I can use the vesa driver.
I've tried the following options in xorg.conf with the nvidia driver:
Code:
# Option "ConnectedMonitor" "CRT"
# Option "ProbeAllGpus" "0"
# Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "DFP, TV"
to no avail.
Any ideas? I can stick the old card in, reinstall the old drivers, and be back in business, but this new card would be nice to get working. If you want to see the install log or dmesg output, I can post it, but nothing really stands out.
