Bad superblock

I used the guide at http://www.tienhuis.nl/archives/17 to virtualize two old Red Hat machines... one 7.3 and one 9 After all is said and done, neither are usable... the boot process complains about the filesystem, drops to a maintenance shell, and says the superblock is bad. Yes, I have SCSI drivers, filesystem support, etc. No, using an alternate superblock does not work.

Have you tried using fsck? See this thread for an example: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...95#post2888595

Yes. It does not work, because, as I may have mentioned, it finds that the superblock is bad.

Ok, and in your original post you mentioned that

I take it you are referring to the use of the dumpe2fs command?

Yes. Specifying an alternate superblock does not help.
