Bad sound + alsa and Intel Corporation 82801BA/BAM
Hi
Found a similar thread but since I have not posted to this forum before I wasn't sure if it was correct to add my question to an already resolved one.
The problem is this
I'm using gentoo with 2.6.18-gentoo-r4 kernel
I have installed alsa using the gento alsa-driver package.
My lspci shows this card:
00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio (rev 12)
My alsa config:
# OSS/Free portion - card #1
## OSS/Free portion - card #2
## alias sound-service-1-0 snd-mixer-oss
## alias sound-service-1-3 snd-pcm-oss
## alias sound-service-1-12 snd-pcm-oss
alias /dev/mixer snd-mixer-oss
alias /dev/dsp snd-pcm-oss
alias /dev/midi snd-seq-oss
# Set this to the correct number of cards.
# --- BEGIN: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
# --- ALSACONF version 1.0.13 ---
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0
# --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
Which is configured by alsaconf
I get the sound to work but as in the other thread it gets distorted when I raise the volume above about 70%, so there is very bad sound quality mostly in the base tones.
The other thread talked some about unloading the sound module (in my case snd_intel8x0) and probing it again with model=xxx, but that parameter seems not to work for my card or it might be that I'm doing something wrong. Dmesg shows unknown parameter "model".
Help would be appreciated
regards
