Bad CPU??

I have a COMPAQ Proliant 1850R that has two CPUs. The boot process and a utility called 'survey' recognizes 1G of RAM and shows two processors. However, 'top' and /proc/cpuinfo are only showing one cpu. I think this is a hardware problem, but I figured I'd check to see if someone thought RH7.2 might not be recognizing the second CPU for another reason.

Thanks for any input.

If 2 CPUs are found in the boot sequence then I think the hardware is OK. Just a guess but maybe SMP isn't compiled in your kernel and Linux only sees one CPU.

How can I verify that? rpm -qa does show kernel-smp is installed.

Fixed:-)
I had to go into the BIOS settings and change 'OS type' from 'other' to 'Unix/Linux'

As for verifing SMP I don't know that was just a shot in the dark guess, I never have a dual CPU system. Anyway I glad to hear that you got it fixed.

Nice catch! There's been a lot of BIOS-setup-related problems going on recently.
