Available 3.2GB of 6GB RAM amd64 system

Hey all,

I not sure if this correct forum but my amd64 system only shows 3.2GB ram out of 6GB ram. If I go to BIOS it says 6GB ram installed but free command only say 3.2G. How come? Can i get full 6gb ram on this system?

Hi,

It looks like you have a 32 bit linux version installed. Out of the box this could limit your available memory to +/- 3.2 Gb.

You can either install a 64 bits (x86_64) compatible linux version or rebuild the current kernel to include PAE support. Depending on your level of experience it is probably better to install a 64 bits compatible linux version.

Too my knowledge, most distro's do have x86_64 versions available,

Hope this helps.
