Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Hmm, it should be possible to put them there but I'm afraid I'm not much of a KDE user and I wouldn't really know where to begin looking. If you use Gnome instead of KDE, you'll find that it does put those icons on the desktop for you.

It did? Weird, mine came out of the box with that feature enabled. It can be done manually by installing Gcond-editor, right-clicking "Applications", selectiong "edit menu" and then checking the configuration-editor box under System Tools. After that, it is accessible from Applications > System Tools; if you look into the nautilus subsection of the "apps" section, you should find an option to display all your partitions as desktop icons.
