Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question ATI <-> NVIDIA compatibility problem

Hi!

I have a problem with the compatibility between ATI and NVIDIA graphics cards. I have to use proprietary software on a Redhat Professional 3 system. My PC got an ATI FireGL graphics card, the software only supports NVIDIA Quadro/Geforce. The rendering of the program is working fine, however when I try to digitize data on the screen I can neither see my clicks nor are the data registered. The manufacturer tells me it is probably related to the overlay mode and to get an NVIDIA card anyhow. Thanx!

My questions:
a) Is it possible to run an NVIDIA driver on an ATI graphics card or to simulate an NVIDIA card on my ATI card?
b) Any ideas on how to tweak the XF86 config or where the problem might be located?

Thanx in avance!

I think you should listen to the manufacturer of your software. The answers to your questions are.

a) no
b) The problem is the card. Change it as the manufacturer suggests...or change the software you are using.

Peace V
