I tried all the possible fixes I have found here to get my ATI drivers working. I downloaded the newest drivers from ATI and I get this after rpm'ing it:
Code:
root@slackware:/home/seeded# rpm -i --force fglrx-4.3.0-3.9.0.i386.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:

I have the source from Slackware installed and everthing like I read too! I also tried the rpm2tgz method as well but it doesn't seem to really work. My GL screensavers are as choppy as default drivers are. Any knowledge would help! Thanks!
open terminal.
su
cd into directory containing the drivers you just downloaded
rpm2tgz fglrx****.rpm
installpkg fglrx****.tgz
cd /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod
sh make.sh
cd ..
sh make_install.sh
fglrxconfig
rename /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 to xorg.conf (backup your xorg.conf first)
reboot or restart x server
open terminal
glxinfo it should say near the top direct rendering YES. (which means hardware opengl working)
and if u restarted and fglrx didnt load then u have to add /sbin/modprobe fglrx to /etc/rc.d/rc.modules
please help me, i have the same problem! same dependencie errors
netmask: that command does nothing! it doest find the command
heema: i get a error when i try to sh make.sh
ati module generator v 2.0

aboring module build.
I tried your method once and it didn't work. Direct Rendering said: NO. So, I got to thinking and made a backup of xorg.conf and made a symbolic link with the XF86Config-4 using ln -sf. Don't know why but it made all the difference. After reboot I ran glxinfo and got this:
Guess it worked! But how do I know if my card is running at x8 or sideband addressing is enabled and fastwrite? That's probably more difficult I imagine. Well, thanks for the help!
I followed your instructions heema, didn't see any problems....
Everything appeared to go fine, it warned that the module would taint the kernel etc.
Upon getting back into X, direct rendering was still no, so I added the modprobe to the bottom of rc.modules, still no. I even tried rebooting :s so I tried what Russb said, went back into X, but it still says no
Anyone have any ideas pleaaseeee
(I am liking slackware so far, its my first day with it, just wanna get 3D out of the way )

I wish I could help you more man. It seemed like after my 5th try it just worked. Just try again and do it line for line and don't get over zealous with it.
