Hello,
I attempted to connect the DVI output of my
ATI FireGL V5600 graphic card through the
DVI-to-HDMI cable to the HDMI input of my
LCD TV (Fujicom FJ-4005) in order to have the
TV acting like a large PC monitor. I've got
a blank (blue) screen and the only difference
between it and the screen with disconnected cable
was the absense of "no signal" mesage, so I can deduce
the TV senses some signal but it can't understand it.
After some "googling" I became aware of the hurdle
called "HDCP" which sometimes can prevent a legitimate
image from being displayed but at least according to some
sources this shouldn't be the problem as HDMI destination
should accept the un-encoded transmission from DVI source
(if I understood correctly). The other issue I can think
of is the group of possible resolutions the TV can accept
which might not include the resolution which the ATI card
is using. I searched for a ways to display the possible
resolutions and came to "xrandr" (if there are other
tools to display/change resolutions - I would be glad to
learn). Here's the output of "xrandr":
Code:
xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1400 x 1050, maximum 3320 x 1400
DVI-1 connected 1400x1050+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 408mm x 302mm
1400x1050 60.1*+ 59.9
1280x1024 75.0 70.0 60.0
1024x768 75.0 70.1 60.0
800x600 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2
640x480 75.0 59.9
720x400 70.1
DVI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
The TV advertizes itsels as "Full HD" with 1920x1080 resolution.
Despite heavy "googling" I couldn't find the list of other
resolutions the TV is capable of accepting. I haven't started
changing the graphic card resolutions yet (I remember that soon
after installing FC9 almost a year ago I messed something
with the resolutions, lost a picture and I don't remember
how I recovered but I'm somewhat worrisome of playing with
resolutions before learning how to revert to the one that works).
My questions:
1) Do you think it's the issue of HDCP or of incorrect resolution?
From what I've read, if it's the HDCP issue then my only
option of to translate the DVI signal to VGA (the TV has
2xSCART, 2xHDMI, VGA, USB, S-Video, Composite, Component inputs)
or other analog signal and suffer some analog noise addition.
If it's the resolutions issue:
2) The ATI FireGL V5600 has two DVI outputs. Can I set both to
show the same image but with different resolutions so that
I'll keep one connected to the PC monitor and another to
the TV?
3) If the TV can accept resolutions up to 1920x1080, does
it means it can accept any lower resolution or only
few fixed resolutions (I wish I knew which)?
4) What tool exist (or what files to edit) in order to separately
contro the resolution of each of the two DVI outputs? I'm
running FC11, kernel version: "2.6.29.4-167.hpfs.fc11.x86_64".
Should I change the video driver for that?
5) Has anyone succeeded connecting the ATI FireGL V5600 to
an LCD TV? In parallel to the standard PC monitor?
TIA for any help,
kaza.
