ATI Drivers

I have never successfully installed ATI drivers for Linux since they have piss poor Linux support but this time I have no choice. It is asking me on the ATI site what version of X Windows I am running on this particular Fedora 2 machine and I am really not sure what to select.

Here are my options:

XFree86 4.1
Download
3.9 04/07/05 Version: 8.12.10
XFree86 4.2
Download 3.6 04/07/05 Version: 8.12.10
XFree86 4.3
Download
4.7 04/07/05 Version: 8.12.10
X.Org 6.8
Download
3.6 04/07/05 Version: 8.12.10

The website also tells you to run check.sh if you don't know. However, I'll save you the trouble of doing that. You need Xorg one. The other thing is that this has been posted so many times for Fedora and other RPM based distros, that it is ridiculous. Just yesterday I helped someone out with this. You can search the forums you know that.

After downloadnig the file do this:
1) cd to directory where RPM is located
2) do the command w/o quotes "rpm -ivh filename.rpm"
*if it says conflicts with mesa or gl, then do "rpm -ivh --force filename.rpm"
3) backup your xorg.conf, should be located in /etc/X11/
4) run command fglrxconfig and answer the questions and save the file at the end when it asks you to
5) restart X gui
6) run command glxgears to test the driver, if the frames output it gives is 2000 fps or above, then they are working, they will go up as time goes on and it will depend on the card..mine is an x600 pro
7) enjoy and report back here to let us know if it worked. I run FC3 and the drivers worked on my sys the first time
