Thank you vary much that helped me to install the driver but I still could solve my problem with my TV Card. I use SUSE 9 and before I installed the driver I could watch TV. But now I only get a black box! I hear the sound and the modules are also loaded but I don't see anything. Can somebody help me, please?!
The 3.7 release seems to work fine in single head or big buffer (2 displays) with hw opengl.
But, as someone else seems to have noted, if you run dual head, then opengl disappears.
Has anyone found a way to get dual head, independent window managers, to work with hw
opengl? This mode works fine as long as you don't want fast opengl...
I'm a n00b with Linux and I installed the 3.7.0 driver 2 weeks ago with the tutorial on page 1. How can I update my drivers? Only install the RPM from suse or must I do all the steps from the tutorial again?
I've read every single one of these posts. I've tried every idea posted, but still neither agpgart nor fglrx is used by any processes. I never had any compilation or installation errors, but the 3D gfx is just not working. Everything is still being loaded through the indirect mesa. I also thought that maybe the fglrx was being run before the agpgart so I rmmod and insmodded them in the correct order to check, but still nothing. I've tried external and internal agpgarts but both don't do a thing. And it's not the 2.6 kernel either coz I see people on forums running 2.6 with their Radeons running perfectly. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!! I'm beyond frustration here.

Distribution: Whatever I can get my hands on, usually Knoppix.

I'll pay someone to help me
I'll pay someone to help me install my drivers and get my 9800 XT fully functional. Here is what i have, if any more information is needed lemme know:
Internet connection - road runner ~2mb/s
Proc - AMD Athlon 1700 XP (1.35ghz)
512mb ddr
ATI Radeon 9800 XT
40 gig Maxtor 7200RPM
MSI VIA KT4V w/ AGP 8X (based on VIA Kt400 chipset)
SuSE 9.0 from an FTP install w/ all the YOU updates installed
2.4.21-144-athlon kernel
I think that that is basically all the esentials. I haven't touched ANYTHING on the machine yet, so there is a clean slate to work with. Please PM me or email me if you can help!
Can somebody send me a private message or help me in this thread how I can update my drivers from 3.7.0 to the latest? I've followed the instructions when I was installing 3.7.0 but how can I update???
Everyone with install problems and stuff have no fear! here is my mini tutorial to installing the 3.7.6 drivers:
download driver from the ATI website.
in console, cd to location of driver
type "rpm -Uh --force <drivername>.rpm"
it should install and if you get a error message about the kernel module, this is normal
run fglrxconfig
enable a external AGPGART
restart
Check to see if everything is alright via fglrxinfo. If not, then contine on
add the line "Load "dri" " to the XF86config file under module
then do the thing that sirra did with the boot.local file
Hopefully, this will help some of you guys. have a nice day.
ich followed the steps of sierra closely, but still 3D ist not working. I read through this long thread and could not find a solution for my problem. Perhaps you can find the fault...
Ok, here's what i did:
Downloaded the Suse RPMs fglrx, km_fglrx and installed them as mentioned in the README.
The i found this article..
followed the steps up to the inserting of agpgart:
if i put it in boot.local, the machine boots up and freezes at kdm. This can be avoided by changing the display (Ctrl + Alt + any of the F-Keys). A lsmod shows, that both agpgart and fglrx are running and seem to be used by other progs (non zero "Used by" and no (unused)).
Perhaps anyone of you knows what to do with this error.
If i do not load "agpgart" in boot.local, the system runs fine... but there's no 3D acceleration.
Thanks for your help
Elderian
Here is my System:
Pentium 3 700MHz,
640 MB PC100 SD RAM,
Asus P3B-F with the Bios v1008 (intel 440BX Chipset)
Radeon 9200SE, 64MB
Terratec DMX XFire 1024
Samsung 160GB hdd
Hi, im getting problems when trying to install the drivers, and i think both of them come down to my i875p chipset
when running make make -f Makefile.module i get:
Code:
ATI module generator V 2.0
==========================
initializing...
cleaning...
patching 'highmem.h'...
skipping patch for 'drmP.h', not needed
probing for VMA API version...
doing script based build for kernel 2.4.x and similar
compiling './agpgart_be.c'...
compiling './agp3.c'...
compiling './i7505-agp.c'...
compiling './nvidia-agp.c'...
compiling './firegl_public.c'...
linking of fglrx kernel module...
duplication skipped - generator was not called from regular lib tree
done.
==============================
and also from my dmesg i get:
Code:
Linux agpgart interface v0.99 (c) Jeff Hartmann
agpgart: Maximum main memory to use for agp memory: 941M
agpgart: Unsupported Intel chipset (device id: 2578), you might want to try agp_try_unsupported=1.
agpgart: no supported devices found.
[fglrx] Maximum main memory to use for locked dma buffers: 926 MBytes.
[fglrx] module loaded - fglrx 3.7.6 [Mar 5 2004] on minor 0
mtrr: 0xe0000000,0x8000000 overlaps existing 0xe0000000,0x4000000
[fglrx:firegl_addmap] *ERROR* mtrr allocation failed (-22)
[fglrx:firegl_unlock] *ERROR* Process 2117 using kernel context 0
[fglrx:drm_ioremapfree] *ERROR* [mappings] Attempt to free NULL pointer
So when i check my process agpgart isnt listed and also fglrx is set to 0
anyone out there who can help me?
Thanks in advance, i look forward to your reply

I just followed Valgar's steps,and i got it worked!!!
THANKS SO MUCH Valgar!!!!!
U r really a great guy!
here is something info about my pc hardware:
athlon(barton 2500+ OC 2.3G)
512MB DDR400
ATI9500(64MB np)
EPOX ep-8KRAI (KT600) chipset
and i just install SuSE9.0 pro via 5 ISO burned into CDs
i go to ATI webpage and download the latest drivers for my 9500,
and then follow Valgar's steps,after 30 minutes, i finish the steps,where i type "fglrxinfo",i shows
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: RADEON 9500 Generic
OpenGL version string: 1.3 (X4.3.0-3.7.6)
After 70 man-hours of dispair and frustration I finally got my 9600XT to work.
The trick you ask? If you have a SIS chipset set the AGP mode to 4X in the BIOS (it is not currently supported); besides that the guide from Sirra should work with no problems
It's the good of the linux community :P
I'm glad that have worked for us all.
For me it have taken 3 months but in these three months i have learned many much things that many years of using windows.
Now i hope that many companies plan to support linux more (i hope i have translated well).
