Ati Ati Ati

yes another ATI thread

i would advise anyone thinking of getting one of these to reconsider. i never had this issue with any nvidia card i have used.

i have only had slight luck with drivers on mandrake 10. no luck at all on suse 9.1

what i have done
first downloaded make and gcc. suse didnt ship with these, my one beef with suse...so far
next i downloaded the kernel and kernel sources
kernel-default-2.6.4-52.i586.rpm
kernel-source-2.6.4-52.i586.rpm

if those are the wrong combo, tell me! i dont think there is anything else i need.

i downloaded and installed the driver from ATI's site

then i su'ed as root and did the make.sh
and make_install.sh

i then ran fglrxconfig

i do have VESA ability, but its not that great.

fglrxinfo gives me this, but i have no idea what that really means
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.4 Mesa 5.0.2)

is there ANYONE who has a working 9600SE on suse 9.1? or any new linux distro

should i change kernel versions? what packages do i need, if i need to change? if my kernel and kernel sources are wrong what do i need? is there any other files i need?
should i downgrade to 2.4.x, i dont really want to but i am not wasting $100 that i spent for the SOB?

like i said next to a win modem i cant think of anything worse.

i do get this when i run make.sh
ATI module generator V 2.0
