Alsa and quake3 based games don't work

Hi everybody

When I install or build alsa RC and 1.0.1 drivers quake 3 based games don't work with nForce2 soundcard.

------- sound initialization -------
/dev/dsp: Input/output error
Could not mmap /dev/dsp
------------------------------------

However Alsa 0.9.8 works fine.
Is there any work around for this problem?

Slackware 9.1/kernel 2.4.24/Abit NF7-s (soundstorm)
