AIC-7896 SCSI Adapter

hello all, i am having a slight problem gettin slackware 9.0 to initialize the AIC scsi adapter in the machine i am trying to install on. it sees channel A fine and resets it without a problem, but when it tries to initialize channel B it give a bunch of 0x?? numbers, and it says that there was an error trying to reset the contorller, the cammand has already completed. then it goes on like that for a while and eventually comes to the keyboard select prompt. but when i try to fdisk /dev/sda it says that the device is not accessable, so i tried sdb and got the same message. BTW the machine is a dual processor SGI 1200 server, i just wanna get slack installed and running, but i am really stumped on this one, mandy 9.0 installs just fine and recognizes the disk, so i am really at a loss for what is going on here, and any help would be appreciated!! thanks again!

The Linux kernel seems has problem in this new SCSI adapter. When I try 2.4.22 pre 8 the situation is better. I'm waiting for the official release of 2.4.22
