agpgart error, cannot start x


hi there,

when i want to start x
Code:
startx
there are several errors:
Code:
(EE) GARTInit: Unable to open /dev/agpgart (No such file or directory)
(EE) I810(0): AGP GART support is not available. Make sure your kernel has agpgart support or that the agpgart kernel module is loaded
(EE) Screens found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found
agpgart is listed in # lsmod

it's done!

it wasn't agpgart, it was the wrong module for the graphicchip. (had i810 => needed intel-agp)

Hello, I am a newbie, and I'm getting the same error - I might be able to fix it in the same way you did. Can you tell me in simple terms how you made the change so it quit trying to load AGP GART?

hi there,

ok, here we go. my bad was to load the wrong graphic card driver. try to load a different one (as in my 2nd post)
