What video card do you have? I have an R9800 Pro and I did not have much trouble getting the ATI drivers installed.

I just made sure that when I installed Mandrake 10, that I selected individual packages and installed the kernel source. I then went into the /lib/modules/fglrx/something directory and created a couple files with the "sh" command, and then I went and installed the drivers and ran fglrxconfig to set them up. Worked fine.

What version of Linux are you running? What video card do you have?
