8th gen intel chips

When will modest priced 8th generation intel i5/i7 desktops be available. Right now, I could probably build one cheaper then the desktops they are selling. I am not a gamer and I don't need a fancy video card.

Out of interest, why do you need/want an 8th generation chip? Do you run computational software that needs that type of power?

Also, why don't you build your own? It's pretty easy to do.

More of an issue of wanting to get my money's worth. If I buy a 7th generation I will want to get it discounted.
I will use this pc as my primary computer. I also run a few server apps on it and occasionally a virtual machine or two.

I've got a 2nd gen in my laptop that is doing super great. Just because they're "out dated" does not necessarily means they not not worth using. Especially with Linux, I'd think they'd be better supported then the latest and greatest.

Look to the cpu benchmark web sites. They tend to show a number of data that may include prices and performance values. Some may have historical data on some web sites for clues.

As above, why do you need, and when next gen or when AMD ups game.
