845G chipset

I have a motherboard, MS-6580, with the Intel 845G chipset running RH 7.3. I read the post on the sound, I haven't gotten that far yet, for the 845g but I am having trouble with the video. I can only get 640x480 res. on my monitor and the window is big. I have tried Xconfigurator to no avail. I looked in the /etc/X11/XF86Config(-4) file and can only find 640x480 in the modeline. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks
Vince

I tried to put 7.3 on my Epox 4g4a+ - also 845G chip set. 7.3 installer won't get past kernel boot.

I tried 7.1, it installed fine but I'm having same video problem - very small window with very big bumpy icons. I thought it might be the Intel Extreme onboard video: are using onboard video or do you have some card installed?

I saw a post elsewhere thats says RH 7.3 doesn't support 845G officially yet, but thought that next beta kernel did...

I am using the on board video. I saw on Mandrake's Web site that their 9.0 version, beta 3 note, that the i845 chipset will be supported. I know that does not help us now but there appears to be some fixes in the future.

845g chipset

I use abit bg7 motherboard which also uses 845g/gl chipset.
You may like to try to configure using vesa driver (as suggested by Intel). However, I could only succeed at 1024x768 with 16 bit colours.

I'm having a problem getting that chipset to work also. How did you make it work for 1024x768. I don't understand what you mean by using the vesa driver? Is there just one, is that the full name?

845G video

I followed the following steps:

Run Xconfigurator.
Select the VESA driver among the available video drivers.
In the resolution settings of further screens I just selected 1024x768 16bit. I did not select any other resolutions.
I selected a laptop display for the monitor as I did not find a proper driver for the Samsung LCD monitor (with TV tuner) display as well.
I tried other resolutions at 24 bit etc but they failed.
Hope this will resolve the problem.
However, the same is for BG7 motherboard.
May be your manufacturer of the motherboard will be able to help further.
